Explore how a historic home in Richmond beautifully blends cherished memories with my client's distinctive style, offering a fresh start while honouring its past.

I was invited to assist a client in Richmond in revitalising her late mother's Edwardian home. The house, brimming with years of accumulated furniture and treasured memories, felt rather outdated. My client wished to pay tribute to her mother's legacy while personalising the space.

A harmonious blend of past and present

The challenge was to declutter the home while preserving cherished mementos and incorporating my client's own furniture and personal items. Our goal was to create a harmonious space that honoured the past yet fit her current lifestyle. The total budget set for this project was very tight; £40,000 for building, materials, furnishing and designer fees.

The approach I took involved selecting a classic design that aligned with my client's taste and existing pieces. As an avid collector of mirrors, clocks, and auction finds, we decided to modernise the look by:

  • Refreshing colours: Introducing contemporary shades to enliven the space. .
  • New soft furnishings: Updating textiles for added comfort and style.
  • Additional storage: Implementing smart storage solutions to keep things organised without losing sentimental items.
  • Updated flooring: Choosing new flooring to unify the home's aesthetic.

The transformation was truly remarkable, a testament to the power of thoughtful design and personal touches. The home now beautifully blends cherished memories with my client's unique personal style, creating a harmonious environment that offers a fresh start while deeply honouring the past. Each room tells a story, weaving together elements of history and modernity, allowing old and new to coexist in perfect balance. This space is not just a house; it is a sanctuary where comfort and joy are ever-present, promising to nurture and inspire for years to come.
